Small Business Forum To Discuss Business Opportunities

An outreach program for small business development will be held on Nov 1st by the Business Development office of Mayor-President Melvin “Kip” Holden. The ‘Small Business Opportunity Program’ and the ‘Small Business Recovery Loan Program’ are the topics of discussion in the forum.

The ‘Small Business Recovery Loan Program’ got started after ‘Hurricane Gustav’ hit businesses in areas such as the Choctaw Corridor, Melrose East, Northdale, Scotlandville and Zion City. This loan program is still left out with funds. Businesses can find a new loan if they operate in one of these areas.

Williams made it known that Southern University’s Small Business Development Center is partner in the outreach effort. It is going to assist companies find loan grants from the ‘Small Business Recovery Loan Program’.

At the meeting there will be two micro-lenders – ‘Accion Louisiana’ and ‘Seedco Financial’ in addition to Southern University Officials. Seedco gives $50,000 to $250,000 in loan grants. Accion Louisiana gives loans in the range of $500 to $100,000.

The ‘Small Business Opportunity Program’ aids with assistance and provides information about government procurement opportunities. Discussions shall also be held about the possibility of businesses to secure government contracts and loan support.

So, the outreach program is a good opportunity for entrepreneurs to secure loans for their companies. Attending the meeting shall help them understand the possibilities that are open to them. Then they can successfully secure the money required for running their business from either of the programs.
