BBVA Compass partners with SmartyPig for online banking services

BBVA Compass has signed a deal with consumer finance site SmartyPig to offer online banking services to the website’s customers.

The Birmingham-based banking giant struck a partnership with the web-based company to offer deposit services for the site’s users looking to strategically save up their money for a specific financial goal, such as a wedding or vacation, the bank said in a statement released Monday.

BBVA will provide savings accounts for SmartyPig customers, in which they can set up monthly recurring deposits from existing checking or savings accounts. They can also make one-time contributions. Deposit amounts are set by the customer and can be calculated by using an interactive calculator to determine the amount needed each month to reach the predetermined goal.

BBVA Compass is the U.S. banking division of Spain-based Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria S.A. (NYSE: BBVA). The company is the 25th largest U.S. banking operation with $62 billion in assets.
